JANUARY

Feast of St. Anthony. Jan 16th & 17th. One of the most typical celebrations in Nerja with bonfires in the streets lit after 7pm. Residents and visitors enjoying the local products, processions & fireworks the following day.

FEBRUARY

Carnival is celebrated in Nerja for a 3 day weekend! Carnival groups & the traditional ‘whitebait burial’ marking the end of carnival with firework display.

MARCH/APRIL

Semana Santa & Easter week.

Spectacular Easter processions take place in the centre of town on Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Easter Sunday.

MAY

The festival of ‘May crosses’ in the centre …where alters are adorned with flowers , music & folk dance in addition to food tasting seasoned with typical molases.

Pilgrimage of San Isidro. May 15th, San Isidro, the Patron Saint of Farmers is celebrated. The pilgrimage comprises of farmers & their families all dressed in traditional costume on horseback & in beautifully decorated horse drawn carriages & carts. Dancing and singing…the party goes on till late!!

JUNE

Midsummer – 23rd/24th June is celebrated with a great ‘Moraga'(grilled sardines’) at Burriana beach by great bonfires. Friends & families gather on the beach and celebrate the beginning of summer until late at night.

JULY

International Festival of Music & Dance in the caves of Nerja.

Day of the Virgin de Carmen. July 16th.

This feast is one of the most beautiful…amongst floral garlands and wreaths the statue of the virgin Mary is carried into the sea. Fireworks, a flotilla of fishing boats accompanied by fireworks, music & dancing by the sea shore below the Balcon de Europa. Truly spectacular!

SEPTEMBER

The feria de las Maravillas de Nerja. A local procession with fireworks celebrated around the 8th Sept.

OCTOBER

Nerja fair from October 8th – 12th approx. During these days there are vast processions, a festival of flamenco singing, folklore performances, typical verbenas & days of fun and fireworks!!

NOVEMBER

31st October & 1st November Halloween in Nerja

DECEMBER

Christmas & New Year. Great firework displays. In the Plaza Balcon de Europa Carva is offered with the ‘lucky grapes’, music, concerts on the Balcon to celebrate the New year .
